Launched in September 2007, Book Bargains and has been set up to deliver the book buying public in Australia with the following unique service:
Massive savings on all titles – up to 75% off RRP and sometimes more, customers usually save more than they spend
All books dispatched within 24 hours – typically customers receive their books the very next working day
FREE freight and handling - to anywhere in Australia for all orders over $50
Think of Book Bargains as a factory outlet for books where the sale never ends.
If you're looking for the very latest releases, or perhaps searching for an obscure title by a specific author, don't mind paying top dollar and waiting typically weeks or months for your order to arrive, then you are probably better to try one of the many other online book stores available.
But if you're just looking for great books by some of the world's best selling authors at up to 75% off normal retail prices, sometimes more, and you would like to receive your books within a few days, you've come to the right place.
So, we invite you to have a browse through Book Bargains and if you see some books you fancy, give us a go and see how cheap and easy buying books online can be.
Book Bargains is 100% Australian owned and operated by husband and wife team, Murray Finlayson and Wilma Rietveld. We source all our books personally from here and overseas and pride ourselves on delivering exceptional customer service. Maintaining this 'personal touch', we use a small warehouse operation in Alexandria, Sydney, close to fast distribution points, in order to get books to customers in an unbeatable timeframe.
With 20 years' experience in the publishing industry, Murray began working in business magazines then migrated to internet publishing in 1998, just when the internet was beginning to take off. He worked continually through the 'boom' and 'bust' periods of the dot com era and understands the power of the internet and why it is making such a strong comeback. He believes that with a simple-to-use website and an efficient fulfillment operation, he can deliver the cost savings and customer service book buyers are looking for.
A former teacher, Wilma has worked in Human Resources for many years and has also been an editor in the publishing industry.
Murray and Wilma have been married for 10 years and have two energetic young boys, Hamish 3 and Harris 1, and live on the Northern Beaches in Sydney.
The first thing you notice about the Book Bargains website is that it is very simple and straightforward. No flashing pop-ups and no over-the-top advertising trying to sell you everything you don't need.
You will also notice there is no search function. This is quite deliberate.
Because Book Bargains is like an online factory outlet for books, we can only stock what publishers make available. And because we only launched recently and are still building up our range of books, we made a conscious decision not to include a search function at this stage, as it would most likely result in fruitless searches.
However, we do recognise that many, if not most, web users like to search rather than browse. So as our stock begins to grow, we are now looking at introducing a search function that will satisfy our users and not disappoint them.
Meantime, we encourage you to browse or scroll through the categories, as we believe we have something for everyone. Books are displayed alphabetically in 24 topic based categories. There is also a "What's New" section which features the most recently added titles from all categories, again displayed alphabetically.
We have further plans to improve website usability, but are keen to hear from our customers with constructive feedback and any customers who would be interested in taking part in user testing.
So if you wish to help us make our site better for all, please feel free to email us or call 1300 727 640.
Book Bargains put quality first. We have specially selected our books because of their proven popularity, sourcing many international bestselling authors and prize-winning titles from all over the world.
Although the range of titles is increasing all the time, the stock levels of each title are often strictly limited. And because you will be lucky to find them cheaper anywhere, demand is sometimes extremely high.
You may find the book you want today, but we may have sold out tomorrow. So do not delay or you may be disappointed!
Because our stock is limited and turnover is high, you should try to check the website regularly, particularly the "What's New" section. You may also like to subscribe to our regular email newsletter, Bargain Alert. Delivered straight to your inbox, this will notify you of newly arrived books in our warehouse and any extra special offers.
What you see is what we have. Unlike most major online bookstores who may only stock as little as 5% of the books they display in their online catalogues, 100% of the books promoted on Book Bargains are in stock now and ready to be shipped. No more waiting for up to six weeks or longer for books to be sourced from overseas.
When you submit your order, it goes straight to our warehouse in Alexandria. Once you confirm your order, we guarantee it will be dispatched within 24 hours. If your order is received before midday, it will be dispatched the same working day. If it's received in the afternoon, your order will be dispatched before noon the next working day.
Thanks to the efficiency of Australia Post, in many cases our customers tell us that books ordered one day arrived on their doorstep the very next day!
Freight and handling is FREE for all orders over $50. For orders $50 or less, a flat rate of $7 applies to anywhere in Australia.
We know it's important to receive your books in good condition, so we take special care to ensure they are well packaged. Depending on the size of the order, we generally post your order in a padded or bubble-wrapped bag.
If you ever receive your books damaged in transit, please retain the packaging and return them to us within 10 working days from the date your order was dispatched to you. If we have sufficient stock, we will send you a fresh copy. If not, we can either provide a credit note, or give you a full refund. We want to ensure that you remain a satisfied customer.
Because we're a small operation, when you phone us with a query, you will be speaking direct to the owners of the business, not some anonymous call centre. We are able to deal with any questions you might have and resolve any problems quickly and efficiently, without needing to pass you on to any number of 'service centre operators'.
We are also keen to hear from our customers on how we might improve our service further. So if you have any ideas on how to help us help you, please let us know.
Whatever the reason, please don't hesitate to call us on 1300 727 640 or email us. We'd love to hear from you.
If you think of any other people, maybe family or work colleagues, who also like books at unbeatable prices delivered quickly and efficiently, then be sure to let them know about Book Bargains.
